Paragliding at The Weissensee Lake
The beautiful southerly Carinthia with its beautiful lakes is one of the finest tourist regions in Austria. Each year in January thousands of Dutch ice skaters descend here for their “Alternatieve Elfstedentocht”. Hajo Smit, the owner of VIP-paragliding, is an avid ice skater and he decided to set up the tandem paragliding during the event. People love it! Do it too! And the big news is: VIP-paragliding expanded the tandem paragliding at Weissensee to all year around.

The Naggleralm is one of the nicest mountain huts in Austria. After relaxing there for a while enjoying the sun a paragliding tandem flight is the elegant way to go down.
In the Summer season fly Greifenburg (Emberger Alm) or Weissensee!
VIP-paragliding started offering tandem flights exclusively during the annual ice skating event in January, but now we have decided to come here the whole year around. Our base is in Zell am See Kaprun but we totally don’t mind to come over for a minimum of 3-4 flights at Weissensee. It’s a short flight but super beautiful and if you take it with the Insta360 media package then you have memories for the rest of your life. If you want to do a guaranteed longer flight then we can meet in Greifenburg – just 25 minutes driving from the Weissensee – and join the local flying school to drive up to the Emberger Alm starting location. The strong and stable thermals in the area allow for great flights where you may even look down on the Weissensee from high up. Solo pilots love this area which is famous for it’s potential for long and safe cross country flights. Tandem paragliding Weissensee FAQ
Where are the start and landing points for flying at Weissensee?
To go tandem paragliding we take the Nagler Alm chairlift up. The start is right under the mountain station a bit to the side. The landing is super close to the valley station. In wintertime it’s possible to land on the frozen lake but we have to coordinate this with events that may take place there. In any way these sites are all fantastic. In the winter a flight on ski’s is possible too.
What makes the Weissensee so special for paragliding?
People who visit here love the Weissensee. It’s so beautiful here it’s almost unbelievable. Exactly this is the reason that the short tandem paragliding flight here (5-10 minutes) is unforgettable nonetheless. Every minute of your flight is super impressive. First the start. Then the ski slope. Then the forest. Then the lake. And we really go over the lake! And then some fun action to go down and land near the lift or. at the ice. It’s just so stunningly beautiful here that it totally makes sense to fly here too. And the green color of the lake with it’s white rim … what beats that?
Is it possible to have drinks or lunch at Nagleralm?
Because the flight is quite short we invite you to make the experience a bit longer by visiting the Nagler Alm and having a drink there. You can also go up earlier by yourself. In that case we will come and pick you up there.
Do you recommend to choose Greifenburg in Summer?
If you want a guarantee for a 20 minute flight choose Greifenburg and it’s Emberger Alm. If your accommodation is at Weissensee we strongly suggest you choose the flight there. Except when you want to book the High & Long thermal flight or even the Ultra VIP-day where we take you on a multiple hour long XC experience. That we really cannot offer from Weissensee but the good news is: on a long thermal flight like that we can fly close to or even over the Weissensee lake. Landing is down in Greifenburg at the paraglider spot at the camping and swimming lake.
