Tandem Paragliding Salzburg-Gaisberg FAQ
What is the best daytime for a tandem flight in Salzburg?

The best time for flying in Salzburg would always be the time of best thermals, which would be between 11 in the morning and 17 o’ clock at night. Outside of summertime closer to noon is better. In strong winds the flights at Gaisberg are fantastic since then we stay up and fly high even without thermals. Those moments can be any time of day. 20 or even 45 minutes flying is possible then. If no strong winds and no strong thermals are present the flight from Gaisberg will be quite short especially with a heavier passenger. Yet for a first flight it is still an awesome experience from an amazing mountain so close to the city center. VIP-paragliding will always give you an honest assessment of the weather conditions for your flight and will make adjustments if necessary.
Where are the start and landing for flying in Salzburg?

The start in all directions is always from Gaisberg at 1288m (3860ft) and the landing is always at Guggenthal at 600m (2000ft). Look on the map above. With your own car you can choose to park at Guggenthal and take the bus from there. With the bus from the city center it is always better to go straight to the top and wait there for the pilots. It’s always nice to spend an hour on the mountain before your flight.
What makes the Gaisberg so special for paragliding?

Gaisberg is one of these amazing mountains close to the heart of a historic city. With close to 700m altitude difference the flights here are always great, but indeed 50% of the time – with strong wind or strong thermals – even more amazing. VIP-paragliding always offers the possibility for people to take the train from Salzburg to Zell am See Kaprun to fly there with 1200m altitude difference. Yet it is so beautiful at Gaisberg all year around that we highly recommend the flights in Salzburg too. We will always honestly inform you about current and predicted weather conditions.
Do you offer pickup at the hotel in the city center?

One or two passengers we can easily pickup in the city center, but alternatively city bus 151 is always a good alternative to get to and from the mountain easily. Just ask if it’s possible for your flight and then we will see.
Is it possible to have drinks or lunch at Gaisberg?

It is a good idea to go up the mountain earlier. There is a beautiful 45 minute hike around the summit. And there are 2 (alternately open) restaurants for a coffee and “Apfelstrudel” or a full lunch. In conditions with strong wind or strong thermals it is recommended not to eat a heavy lunch before your flight, especially for people who also have weak stomachs on a ship or in a car.
