In the summer and in the winter if we don’t start on ski’s there its a 15 minute hike from Restaurant Gipfeltreffen to the Königsleitenspitze.
In wintertime when you have a skiing ticket we may move open ski’s and fly either from Königsleitenspitze or Plattenkogel.

What is the Best season for tandem paragliding in Königsleiten?
Tandem paragliding in the Zillertal Arena is possible as long as the cableways are running. This means that in the summer we do not fly from Hochkrimml (to Krimml) since those lifts are only running in the winter. Königsleitenspitze is accessible all year long except the brief weeks in November and end of April, early May when the Dorfbahn is in maintenance. With 1000m altitude difference from Königsleitenspitze to Gerlos and from Gerlosplatte to Krimml the winter flights are excellent here. On ski’s we also offer a shorter flight to the valley station of the Dorfwendbahn. As in all other locations in Austria the thermals are best from May to September, with surprisingly good days in March, April and October as well. Skiers will enjoy the winter flights for sure. And in the summer season the tandem flights are the best, unforgettable activity on offer.
What is the best daytime for a tandem flight in Königsleiten?
In the early winter season it doesn’t matter what time of day you fly. At the end of the winter season you will benefit from thermals starting to go off around 11 o’clock. In the summer season thermals will be good from 10 o’clock onwards. Sometimes we urge people to pick the early morning flights in summer because the wind over the Gerlos pass can become too strong in the afternoon. Best just to ask VIP-paragliding a few days ahead and we will give you perfect advice.
Where are the start and landing for flying in Königsleiten-Hochkrimml?
Start is either at the top of the Gerlosplatte over Hochkrimml at 2000m or at Königsleitenspitze at 2300m. Landing is either in Krimml or in Gerlos or at the base of the Gerlospass just under Königsleiten (valley station Sonnwendkopf). In summer or in late winter in the late afternoon after nice and long thermal flying we may also land on the beginners slope in the heart of Königsleiten to save a bus or taxi ride from the other locations.
What makes Königsleiten-Hochkrimml so special for paragliding
All pilots of VIP-paragliding love coming to Königsleiten or Hochkrimml since the landscape has a lot on offer and the flying is very “interesting” with always surprising conditions varying from good thermals, convergences and upwinds (soaring) which all allow for longer flights. The views are spectacular. On top of the mountain we are over the forest line and in summertime frequently starting with cows as spectators. The Gerloser Stausee (barrage) contrasts fabulously with the high peaks and glaciers in the background. From Hochkrimml we fly over the serpentines of the Gerlos mountain road and then by the Krimmler waterfall, which is truly stunning. Really VIP stuff!
